Connemara Island Adventure.... 2018
Come and share Island life and work alongside me for an amazing week long adventure, working at Liberty with one of my team ponies on the beach for daily clinics while living on a stunning remote island off the west coast of Ireland in Connemara National Park.
The Island Project in 2015 undoubtedly changed my life for the better, getting to immerse myself in something all encompassing taught me a huge amount about myself, my life and about working in a more in depth way with my horses.
There is an old nomadic saying I once heard “To understand the wolf you must first put on the skin of the wolf and see the world through his eyes” after 30 days alone on the island with my Connemara’s I for the first time understood it's meaning.
Now, I am looking forward to being able to share this incredible experience with six adventurous horse loving souls!
Our week is going to be slightly dictated by the tide...as we will be living on an island! Every day we shall spend half the day working with the ponies on a pathway to liberty. Everyone will have their own pony for the week to work with. The other half days are filled with activities, such as a guided kayak trip out to the actual island I lived on for a look and a picnic lunch on a beach, we can also head out for a tour of a local Connemara Stud followed by a visit to the Connemara museum and lunch at the Station house. Another day we can head out sea fishing around the islands for a few hours to try and catch mackerel to cook on the BBQ while watching the sun set surrounded by the ponies. (activities are subject to weather conditions but amazing replacement activities will be arranges should the weather be that unkind to us)
The cost of the holiday is £2650.00 per person for 7 nights. It is all inclusive, so all meals / drinks / snacks (catered at the house and meals out) all the activities, trips, car transport...everything! All you have to do is book your flights and the ponies and I shall take care of the rest!
If your interested in one of the six places available please fill in the form below to secure your place!
About our accommodation! While I love a bit of wild camping, it's not the most comfortable so we have a lovely remote secluded place to keep warm and have a few home comforts to balance out the rest of the wild adventure! (I can happily provide a leaky tent for anyone really keen to try it!!) The ponies are going to be just outside the door.
Outside: Detached bungalow in most attractive quiet and secluded location overlooking Lough Fahy and the intriguing coastline dotted with numerous islands. Omey Island is accessible across a sand causeway (nearly ½ mile) at neap tides, but not for about 4 hours around spring tides high water. Numerous fine safe sandy beaches (nearest 200 yards). Claddaghduff about 2 miles for nearest shop and pub.
Inside: Comfortably furnished with kitchen/dining room with (bottled) gas hob and electric oven, dishwasher, freezer and microwave, sitting room with open fire, bathroom with W.C., lounge and four bedrooms, one with a double and en suite shower and W.C., one with a double and two with two single beds. Utility room, washing machine and dryer. Duvets. TV and DVD. CD/radio. Oil central heating. Hairdryer. No smoking.
Choosing your pony - I have a large selection of ponies and am happy to let you choose which one you would like to work with during the week. They are all great fun but perhaps their is one in particular that catches your eye!
